About Us

Welcome to Barnsley Explorers

Welcome to Barnsley Explorers

At Barnsley Explorers, we believe in creating opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, make new friends, and discover the world around them. Our unit is part of the UK Scout Association, specifically catering to young people aged 14-18 who want to experience adventure, learn new skills, and give back to the community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help young people develop self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while having fun and exploring the great outdoors. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where every Explorer can reach their full potential.

Our Values

We follow the core values of the Scout movement:

  • Integrity: We act with honesty and are guided by strong moral principles.
  • Respect: We treat others with kindness, fairness, and understanding.
  • Care: We support and look after each other, our communities, and the world.
  • Belief: We explore our own faiths, beliefs, and attitudes.
  • Cooperation: We work together to make a positive difference.

What We Do

Explorers is all about trying new things. Every week, we engage in a wide variety of activities including:

  • Outdoor adventures like camping, hiking, and kayaking
  • Skill-building workshops (first aid, survival skills, cooking, and more)
  • Leadership development and community service projects
  • International expeditions and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE)
  • Fun social events and team-building exercises

Our programme is packed with exciting challenges, tailored to build confidence and resilience, all while having a lot of fun!

Meet Our Leaders

Our leadership team consists of trained, experienced volunteers who are dedicated to helping young people thrive. With backgrounds in various fields such as education, outdoor activities, and first aid, they are here to ensure each Explorer gets the most out of their experience. We prioritize the safety and well-being of our members while encouraging them to take the lead in planning their activities.
